stalling

87,000 miles 1994 nissan altima starts up fine but would shut off at traffick light when drive gear is engaged. car wont move until after engine is turned off for a while and then restarted. sometimes engine acts like is going to stall and then would pick up and be fine for a while before problem sets in again.

Check the throttle position sensor and idle air control valve.
