I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, 88000 on the original engine, 42000 on the new enginge.
It it an automatic.
While driving, the car suddenly shuts off. I am usually able to restart it, but once I had to let it sit over night before I was able to start it again.
I had the crank sensor replaced, but it still does it. Recently on the highway, at 70 mph it was shaking and slowing down until I shifted it back to 60 mph. After that, the check engine soon light came on. My mechanic told me that the engine light code says something about the transmission, but isn't really sure what the problem is. Can anyone help??

I also have a 1999 Eclipse. it has 95500 Miles on the Engine, and is also an automatic. I have the exact same problem and haven't been able to find a cure for it. I found that disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes works occasionally. I'm not sure if it's transmission related or not, but i've been having alot of problems with the transmission (rebuild at 75k miles and now slips) I've also had the check engine light for the transmission as well. If i find out the problem i'll let you know. just wanted to make you aware that you're not the only person with this problem

The problem might be the ecu. When the crank sensor goes bad, that can damage the ecu after a period of time so I would have the ecu rebuilt and see what happens.
