Hi,
I have a 99 eclipse RS std transmission vehicle with 93,000 miles. THe check engine light came on and the mechanic says it has a vacuum leak that is causing the problem. Where would be the most likely area that this leak would occur? They did the smoke test thing and could not find the area where the leak was coming from. Or could it be from the O2 sensor needing to be changed?
Thanks

That is the problem, the service engine light is on and the computer read out says that it may be from a vacuum leak. There is no problem per se with the vehicle, it is just that the service engine light is on and the diagnostic test says that there is a vacuum leak. I just wanted to know where is the most likely place a vacuum leak would occur. I have checked the gas cap and that is not the problem. So I am at a loss where it could be from there. They did the smoke test through the AC line and nothing was discovered. It is a 2.0L DOHC engine 5 sp std trans. Thnax for the help.

I would start by checking all lines around the fuel injection, EGR valve, Air intake system. You will see some hard black plastic lines running all around under the hood. Look at all of them it is a know problem after years of heat they get brittle and break. Hope this little bit of info. Helps. Let me know what you find.
