Not sure how long my rear main seal was broken or how many miles I put on car before it started acting up and I found there was no oil in engine.
There was no apparent leak anywhere so I do not know how long it had been going on.
The Mini dealership has now repaired it but I am concerned that the engine will fail in the near future as parts have been compromised.
They found metal fragments in pan after dropping oil.
I had put 2 quarts in when I discovered there was none and that it what they found when they dropped the oil pan.
The dealer is telling me everything is fine and I have asked Mini to extend their warranty to prove hey feel the car is in fact OK to which their reply has been no.
The car definitely sounds different than it did before as now there is a louder metal sound in engine.

My warranty is up at 48K miles so I am very afraid I will be replacing major items shortly after warranty is up.
Can you give me some advise as to what you might do if this was your car?
Get rid of it?
Much appreciated!

As to an opinion for what to do, there is nothing in those cars that I have seen in my dealership experience that would justify even considering the purchase of one of those little sh**boxes, I have seen them go through transmissions, engines and the little peripheral items like oil filter assemblies leaking and on and on. Have you considered Japanese cars?
