I just obtained a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis from my mothers estate. There is a constant "clicking" noise coming from behind the center of the dashboard. This begins as soon as the key is turned to the ACC position. The noise becomes louder and faster if the Ac/Heater is turned on, but continues even if the fan/blower is not working. At first I thought it was coming from the tape deck, but it appears to be coming from the vent just to the right of the tape deck. Any idea's? How difficult is it to remove the dashboard cover to inspect what might be going on. Thanks

The door that seperates heater to cold flap is going bad and hope that you live in a hot state it gets stuck in the cold side or if you live in a cold state it gets stuck in the hot side. This is a flap like a door opening and closing. If in event you do find your self in the doo cloing in the hot side then you haave to remove the dash and repair the accuator. Thats the expensive way. The inexpensive is to cut and splice you heater hoses and reconnect so that its not going through youoe heter and then it would anly blow cold. Of coarse you will no longer have heat in the car!
