Transmission fluid leak

My 1993 Mercedes 300E 4-Matic has a leak at the very top of transmission case. I thought it was the modulator valve, removed and replaced (it had a crack in plastic case)but still leaking above it after the car has run for 30-45 min. Could it be leaking around transfer case? What else is on the very top that would cause leak? Seems like it leaks as pressure is built up. Please advise. Thanks, Ken

The vents for the trans and transfer case are usually on the top of the trans, might wanna check those to se if one of them is trying to pump fluid out. Other than that there usually isnt too many things on the very top that would leak.

Hello, sounds like you have fluid swapping between you transfer case and transmission. More than likely it will be the trans fluid going into the transfer case. You will hardly notice this in the dipstick however it is something that should be resolved. Make sure you find someone who really does know these cars because some old timers would rebuild these cases. There are others that just replaced them which is fine however make sure it is truly the transfer case. Since it is a 93 you may want to put it into test mode until you get this fixed properly. “The Star” Magazine may be helpful in locating a shop in your area.

Hope this helps.
