My battery charging light just came on as I was driving today. The manual says that the cause is probably a broken belt or water pump, but I checked and the belt is fine - the the water pump and alternator are both rotating. The only other thing the manual said is to get to MB shop ASAP and do not drive - but car is not overheating and I need to get to work.
The battery is less than a year old so shoudl be OK.
Any suggetions?

Hi there,

I would be thinking that the alternator has failed, it still may be rotating but not producing the require charge rate to keep the battery charged up, what will happen is that as you drive and use electrical equipment, the battery will discharge to the point the car will stall or just won't re start after switching off, you will need to get the alternator checked out ASAP, or it will strand you.
