A few weeks ago, the two lowest settings on the fan, but the air conditioning worked fine. Now, only the top fan setting (4) works, but the air conditioning shuts off on setting 4. The light works on the three lower setting, and cold air seeps out, but on 4, only fan works with no cold air. Any ideas what the problem is and what I might expect to pay for repair?

Thanks!

The fan speed might be the fan speed resistor resistor, the cold air could be a problem with theperformance of the a/c and cost on either would depend on an accurate diagnosis, the system might just need a service which is under $100 the resistor would depend on the availability of one through aftermarket or whether the dealer is the only source. Call the service dept and ask for an "out the door" price for repalcing the fan speed resistor

Hello tim2974,

I am having EXACTLY the same problem with my 2002 protege. Suddenly this past weekend the fan on settings 1-3 stopped working but a small amount of cold air comes out and the light is on. On setting 4 the fan works but there is no cold air and the air con light goes off. All of this seemed to happen all at once

If you have had any luck figuring this problem out I would GREATLY appreciate your insight.

Thank you.
