Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Mazda MPV 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Our MPV has a consistant oil leak. We have pressure washed the bottom of the motor, and it was clean for a couple of days. There appears to be oil all over the bottom side of the engine, as if it is blowing from some location. When you stop and let the vehicle sit,
the oil seems to run off and puddles up under the van. It will leave a spot of oil about 6" in diameter. We keep a check on the oil level, and add about 1 qt every couple of weeks. Need to some possible solutions.

On a 1995 MPV there is a housing which was leaking. It is held on by one 10mm bolt; the housing is on the passenger side behind the engine. The housing has a hose which connects to one end of the PCV valve. To remove the housing you need losen all the passenger side valve cover bolts (then you can slightly move the valve cover forward) then take the 10mm bolt off and lift the housing out. The housing has an O ring about 2 inches in diameter. Replace it; is costs about $9 at the dealer. The O ring has been superseeded with a updated version. You should also look for valve cover gasket leaks, if leaking there is a lot (hoses, spark plug wires, plenums, etc) to take off to get to the valve cover gaskets, so mark the parts carefully.
