1997 Mazda 323 FUEL CONSUMPTION

1997 Mazda 323 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 125000 miles

MY CAR CONSUMES 1LITER PER 5KILOMETERS IN CITY DRIVING WHAT SHOULD I CHECK TO MAKE IT ECONOMICAL?AIR AND FUEL FILTER IS NEW .MY FRIEND TOLD ME TO CHECK THE KNOCK SENSOR. IS THERE REALLY A SUCH THING?

Probable causes of an engine running rich are as follows:

1.Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2.Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3.Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
4.Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5.Restricted air intake system.
