My 95 continental when taking off from a stop hesitates and then bangs into second gear if it changes at all and my engine light comes on. When it does this the rpms shoot up very high as if the motor is going to blow. At times I have to pull over to get the car to change over from gear to gear. Now this may seem funny but if I pull the powertrain control module relay under the hood my engine light goes off and the car runs as if there were nothing wrong at all for a short while. Before I spend any money on a transmission I was trying to figure out if this were a transmission problem or an electrical problem. Please help me out. Thanks, phil.

I would start by having the PCM scanned to see if the trans has stored any fault codes. You may have a solenoid that is bad, which is causing the hard shift and the light to come on. Since it will work properly at times, I would lean towarsa bad solenoid or thesuch, but have a reputable trans shop scan it for you first to see exactly what is wrong
