I have the car listed above 300c that has been sat for a couple of years. It’s now been fixed and had an mot. It keeps going into limp mode. My question is, can old fuel cause it to go into limp mode?

Good morning,

Yes, old fuel will cause this issue.

The tank should be dropped and flushed out of all the old fuel and I would replace the fuel pump as well.

You also could drain the tank from the back seat as well to get the old fuel out. I attached that as well.

DRAINING FUEL TANK

1. Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure See: Fuel Pressure Release > Procedures > Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure
2. Remove the fuel pump module See: Fuel Gauge Sender > Removal and Replacement > Fuel Pump Module - Removal
3. Using the Fuel Chief Gas Caddy 320-FC-P30-A or an OSHA approved gas caddy, evacuate the fuel tank.

REMOVAL

1. Release the fuel pressure, refer to the Fuel Pressure Release Procedure. See: Fuel Pressure Release > Procedures > Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure
2. Disconnect negative battery cable.

NOTE: The fuel level of the vehicle must be below 5/8 of a tank before you remove the module lock-rings. If it is above that you can spill fuel in the vehicle.

3. Drain partial fuel from fuel tank through the filler tube. Use a hard nylon tube, with a 30° cut on the end, to push the check valve open to drain fuel from tank.

11. Drain fuel from right side of fuel tank. Lift module up enough to push hose into tank and drain. Do not spill fuel in interior of vehicle.

12. Disconnect the electrical connector from left side module.
13. Mark the module orientation.
