1996 Other Jeep Models wont start

I was driving down the road and it just died.I pulled over and we sprayed starting fluid in the carb. It wanted to crank over but ran for like 2 seconds and died again. My friend said its the fuel pump. Its in the shop now and its undergoing a computer replacement. The guy said its the quickiest way to find the problem. Do u think this is the source
