I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was knocking loudly, sounded like an empty spray paint can rattling on Jan 31st then suddenly just died. I have checked the pressure valve on the fuel rail and only a little squirt came out so there is obviously not enough fuel getting to the engine. So I went and purchased a couple cans of starting fluid and sprayed in directly into the throttle body while my fiance was cranking the motor over and still nothing. I pulled out one of the spark plugs and it was very dry and burned so I am guessing there is no spark as well. I don't know what to do here. What do you think it is?

Do below and get back with some results

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

I just removed the starter and removed the old crank sensor and found metal shavings behind it. Is this common? There was one rather large one. about half the size of my index fingernail and jagged on one edge and straight on the others.
