Engine cuts out

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, 5 speed stick, 4 ltr inline 6, 4 wheel drive with 172,000 miles. The vehicle at 1/4 tank of gas cuts out dramatically on turns and just as quickly revives. This sometimes also happens on cold starts going forward. I know that this problem has been addressed in the past, with the indication of a faulty fuel pump modulater which is in the gas tank.
This happens quickly and recovers quickly, can the pressure drop that fast? In the old days I would have thought it to be a sticky float in the carb.
Thanks for your help!

The pumps are high pressure, so they recover very quickly. Sounds like there is less gas than gauge reads if the engine cuts out and catches back up. Might be tim eto drop the tank and see if the tank module is good, and look in the tank to be sure no baffles are loose causing the float for gauge to stop before above empty
