Flashing check engine light

1996 Isuzu Rodeo, 160K 2.8 engine. The check engine light had been on and mechanic told me it was a computerized O2 sensor that didn't really have any effect. Car ran fine for 25K miles, but today the check engine light started flashing and car ran rough. All fluids were ok, and the only info I could find was that it was a stored code. true or false? Thanks in advance for your help.

When the check engine light is flashing it's a warning not to drive! Catalytic converter damage is likely occuring! Get the codes read and fix the problems, or the engine may be damaged...
