check engine light

my check engine light is on and i took it to advance to check the codes...........the said it reads a code po171 (bank 1)and po174(bank 2) system too lean...........what does this mean and how do i fix it.........1999 isuzu rodeo with 105000 miles........v6 4wd...........

Its a lean code that generally involves the maf sensor. Sometime you can clean it. Sometimes it isn't the problem.

Sorry, I musta had ford on the brain when I answered this. The Isuzu I don't believe has one. The codes are for excesslvily rich or lean conditions. A vacuum leak can cause this, this can be detected by listening for a hiss sound, and spraying some carb cleaner in the area of the hiss to see if the idle changes. Spray it around the intake manifold area to check for intake manifold gasket leak.

The EGR or IAC may be plugged and need cleaning.

There are quite a few possibilites that can causing this, but the above can done without a scanner.
