I own a 2000 Infiniti Qx4, 200,000mi, 3.3engine. Recently while I was at the an intersection stop light about to take off I noticed that the transmission seem not go into gear even though it was already in drive. I pulled over at a station to see if I could figure out the problem but could not see or hear anything that I could put my finger on and the fluid levels were fine. However, when I got back in the vehicle to start it the engine would not turn over, it did nothing! I am clueless as to what this could be. Help!

Thanks for responding. First things first, my wife sent this to you guys trying to help me in finding out what is wrong with my truck (2000 QX4 Infiniti). I have worked on cars for most of my life, but this really has me puzzled. I've already checked all the obvious things, lights iluminating, battery & battery connectors and made sure the shifter was in park. And I tried it in nutural. I first notice that when I backed out of the drive way and put it in drive it wasn't in first gear. It was like it was in a higher gear, So I pulled it down into 1st, gear and it went in. Then once I got on the fryway I notice the car would not shift into over-drive. I push the passing gear button on the side of the shifter and I wasn't working, The geen light in the dash didn't come on either. I drove on to the gas station to get some gas which was about maybe 8-10 miles from home. Once I paid for the gas and I got back in the truck I hit the key and NOTHING! One of the things that I did notice was when I would turn and hold the key the lights in the dash didn't blink off and back on one the key was released. I don't know if the computer lock out the ignition or what. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hello !

Well looks to me like the problem its the shifter.

Check the linkage that goes to the transmission, could be out of adjustement (broken or loose )

thats why the shifter parking switch its "open" (starter circuit open)

check that and let us know to continue with the troubleshooting.

Good Luck!
