I was driving around and went to the store. When I tried put it in reverse it would shift into it. I had to realease the clutch while trying to go into reverse in which it grinds hard but goes. What does that mean? Roughy what would be the repair cost on it?

Hi pearlsh,

Quite confusing to me.

The gears can engage but grinds while releasing the clutch?

The gears are difficult to engage and grinds during engagement with clutch depressed?

Sometimes reverse gears are dicfficult to engage because they do not have any synchromesh gears so you need to release the clutch and try again.

If the gears keep grinding while trying to engage with clutch depressed, it should be the clutch disc moving on the clutch too slowly due to insufficient lubrication or the hydraulics are weak resulting in low clutch slave cylinder travel.

Gears 1 through 5 feels a little different when I shift into them but they dont grind. Its only the reverse gear that grinds and its bad. Not only that but the gear only engages as im trying to force reverse and release the clutch at the same time.

Hi pearlsh,

It should be a problem with the clutch systm.

How high does the pedal travel in the 1st gear before the ttrans engages?

If it is very low, you need to check the hydraulics.

If it is quite high, the clutch system needs an overhaul. Make sure clutch shaft is properly cleaned an appropriate amount of lubricants applied, DO NOT over apply grease on shaft.
