I have a problem filling the gas tank. It acts as if it is full after 10 to 20 seconds. It starts clicking. I have tried different gas stations and pumps. I have tried sticking the pump in various positions. It still behaves like the tank is full. Can someone advise?

My 04 pilot is doing the exact same thing. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the "vapor valve" on the tank. And guess what after 5 fills the problems started again.

Hi,

Have you called American Honda to tell them about the problem? If not, then Please take a moment to call them at (800) 999-1009. Press option 7 to speak to a rep. They will ask for your VIN number, will collect your contact information, and you can tell them about the problem you are having.

I also own a 2004 Pilot and am having the EXACT same issue. My dealer replaced the Vent Shut Valve, which did not fix the issue, and now Honda is recommending that my dealer replace the entire tank.

I called American Honda today to try and seek assistance from them to no avail. Honda has not issued any service bulletin or recall about this issue yet, and they will not do so unless we all take the time to inform Honda of the problem so that they know there is a larger community of drivers facing this same issue.

Thanks and good luck!

After the vapor valve was replaced the problem still existed. The dealer finally replaced the entire tank, yes I got a refund on the valve. And I have not had a single problem with the car since.

Hello turk528 and aerickso,

I wanted to get on board with the SAME issue with my 2004 Pilot. I have had the problem for past 2 years. I first thought it was the pump adjustment at my local gas stations. Most other gas stations let me fill my Pilot with no early shutoff. Over time others stations pumps started shutting off too and anywhere I went it took me over 30 minutes to fill an empty tank. In June 2012 I had the problem "diagnosed" at my local Honda dealer and they could only recommend a new gas tank which I decided was too expensive and from my googles did not seem to fix the problem. I reported to problem to Honda of America (800-999-1009, Opt.7). Interestingly enough after my dealer "diagnosed" the problem it went away! Then 10 months later it started acting up again. I recently checked back with HOA and they said there were still no service bulletins or recalls related to this issue.
So turk528 - Have you still had no problems? Thanks
