I was driving in heavy rain last night and my engine cut out about 8 times in a 1 mile stretch. If I put the car in Neutral it would start back up, it would drive fine for a couple hundred feet and cut out again. I noticed the TCS (traction control system) light came on when the car would die out.
I drove the car today about 20miles and the engine ran fine.
The new codes from the computer were P1366 P1361 and a code that has been showing for along time P0420.

Hi Nathanr,

P1361 and P1366 are faults transitted by the TDC sensor 1 and 2.

Based on your description, while in heavy rain , water is splashed onto the sensors giving a false reading and the cutting out. I would suggest checking the connetors for water contamination and cleaning them with application of dielectric grease to prevent oxidation which would cause the sensor to fail at a later date.

P0420 means the catalytic converter is not in good condition and would require replacement.

Thank you for such a great solution. I had both codes which I suspected something weird happened especially after having the car parked for 3 days in the rain and humidity. Pulled the plugs and sprayed them with the dielectric cleaner and it worked. Thank you thank you
