Our son who is handicapped called re: this problem with his car. While drive the car, the Check Engine light came on, and the car began loosing power. He continue to drive, however, it would not accelerate over 20 mph. It is late at night, but in checking the oil dip stick, it appears there is oil in the engine, although it reads low.

What do you recommend we check first. Thank you so much. We are over 2000 miles away on a trip and can not be there to double check the situation.

First question. You mentioned the engine oil was low. How low? Did it show on the dip stick or was it 3 quarts low. Also, understanding your distance problem, we need to know what triggered the check engine light. This would be a valuable clue. Otherwise, we are just guessing and that isn't going to help you much. Please advise.

The oil stick shows the oil level between the two holes. Closer to the top hole

we do not know why the check engine light came on. Is there a way for us to have someone do a diagnostic on that, without having to pay a fee?

Yes, Autozone and most major auto parts stores will do a computer scan for free. You may have to call around a bit to find one, but when you do, get back to me with the code # and the definition. We can go from there. If the oil level is between the holes, we should be ok there.

All we could learn in coe P1362. The car stopped running after a short drive. However, several hours later it could be restarted and drive a couple of miles @ 30 mph before it stopped again.

Thanks for your help.

We are traveling today, but I can be reached by cell phone 503-314-3124. Thanks so much.
