I have a 2000 civic 1.6 I had the timing belt changed by Honda at about 126000 miles and a few days latter I started to hear valve rattle under a load with 87 octane but not with 93 octane when I took it back he cheeked the timing and said he cheeked the crank and cam to see if they were aligned right (he said they were I could not tell) but there is no way to see the crank pulley with just the top cover off (I was watching) I took it to another shop and they said that it might be advanced one tooth and that’s why it dose not rattle with 93 octane any advice with what to do? There is no cheek Engine light coming on the timing is correct and has been checed with a light

Hi rme1984,

Get a timing light to check the ignition timing. If the timing is off and adjustment of the distributor could not get it back to specs, the timing belt has been installed out of time. Thsi is applicable for single cam.
