How often should I replace the spark plugs in my 1998 Honda Civic? I drive mostly highway and put on about 22,000 miles per year. Are there other components that should be replaces when replacing the plugs?

I am currently getting between 33-36 mph. I used to get up to 38-39

Hi cjmdam,

Spark plugs will last between 10 k to 60 k miles depending on the type of plugs used, engine and driving condition.

Normal plugs would last up to 20 k miles. Platinum plugs would last double the mileage with iridium plugs triple that.

If you do not have any oher issues, replacing the spark plugs do not require other items to be replaced.

For lower than expected mileages, the spark plugs, fuel filter and ignition timing plays very important roles. Get them checked and replaced/adjusted if necessary.
