My Speedometer will jump erratically from 0-60, 0-40, or 0-20

I have a 97 Honda Civic EX and my speedometer started acting up a while back, sometimes it would would, and sometimes it does not. It will jump erratically from 0-60, 0-40, or 0-20, and sometimes when it isn't gauging speed, it will still count the miles. Other times it will just not work all together for weeks at a time, and then randomly start working. PLEASE help! I am desperate to know what is going on, and how/what I need to do to fix it.

Hi heatherp143,

It could be the VSS, its wiring circuit/connection or a faulty meter cluster. Here is the location of the vehicle speed sensor. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.
