My 1996 honda civic makes a chirping sound that turns into a kind of groaning almost barking sound from the front end as I apply the brakes. Firestone has replaced the pads, calibers, rotors and brake lines twice. The sound goes away after Firestone works on it but has always returned after a couple of weeks.
The sound usually starts after I step on the brake pedal and the speed on the car drops below 40 MPH. It sounds almost like a bad shock or strut but I can't replicate the sound by bouncing the car and if that was the case why would it go away for a couple of weeks after they work on the brakes. Firestone seems to be unable to take care of the problem. Any ideas

Hi lt5056,

Thank you for the donation.

I have encountered many cases of what you described and they were caused by brake pad qualty.

Check if the pads used were of known quality. Request for a different brand to be installed and see if it works.

At the rear of pads there are some steel plates that are used to absorb vibrations and for Honda, the original pads replacement kits comes with lubricants that should be applied to reduce vibrations and noise. Check that out as well.
