I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX, Automatic, 200,000 miles. It was prev owned by a mechanic & has been an excellent runner until a few months back.

It will start & stay running in Park forever. I can pull off, but as soon as I come to a complete stop it idles down & dies. Initially I could start her right back up, but now I need to jump it. I'm aware she needs a new battery as she's been sitting for awhile. I tried the ignition coil, but that made no difference.

I'm wondering fuel related??? I was hoping it would be the coil, now I'm moving on...fuel filter, fuel pump? Any ideas...

Try the EGR exhaust gas recirculation valve and the idle air control valve-then comeback, we still got a long way to go.

I talked to a mechanic & he thinks it could be as simple as the alternator??? It almost sounds possible, but too easy. I've done several alternators so not an issue. Can you give me more info on the EGR though?

It will start & stay running in Park forever if its the alternator I don't think it'll run all day.

Try checking the open and running voltages on the charge system to confirm the voltages.

Hey you got your mechanic I don' think you need me here. Get with him on the alternator when that's fixed comeback and will get deep6 in engine management system/controls.
