While driving the car the break system seems as if its not working right. It takes a long time for the car to come to a complete stop. Its not squeeking or grinding, just when the break peddal is pressed it slows but when it gets to a low speed its like it stops breaking. It feels like the car is trying to push harder then the breaks are working. Can anyone tell me what this may be?

I would start by looking at the brakes. The rear are most likely drums and they could be locked up. Does the emergency brake work good? If not, start with the rear brakes. Secondly, check the rotors in the front and see if they are very shiny and smooth. Look at the pads as they can become glazed over from excessive heat. Replace parts as necessary.
