I have a 1988 Honda Accord LXI. The cooling fans operate fine during driving and when the A/C is on, but the fan dedicated to the engine does not shut off after the car is shut off. It runs until the battery is drained.

Can you direct me to the relay location, timing sensor or cooling senors that might be causing me problems?

Hi hondastuff,

Most probably the relay is faulty. It is located in the fuse box under hood.

Pull out the relay and the fan should stop.

Hi abpleo,

The speedometer working erratically is the cause for the Check Engine light to indicate and the S mode light blinking. The common fault is a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor located on trans axle housing below the thermostat housing.

Cooling fan would only come on when the fan switch is activated after the coolant temperature has reached the required temperature. They would also come on when the AC is turned ON.

I have tried 3 different coolant switches. The switch is located in the radiator. I can jump the wire with a paperclip and the fans come on and work fine but when I leave it up to the switch the temp. Goes into the red and I shut it down so it dont overheat. What else could be the problem?

Hi cargar2,

Thank you for the donation.

Check the radiator hoses, if the upper hose is very hot and lower hose is not, then the thermostat could be bad and not opening.
