Hi there,

I hear a strange knocking noise (like a wooden ship knocking gently on the sea - really.) When I accelerate and turn the steering wheel at the same time. There is no knocking when I am turning the wheel and braking or turning the wheel and 'coasting'. There is also no knocking when I accelerate and do not turn the wheel.

Any idea what this is? It's been happening for about 2 months and I'm dreading taking it in for service.

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the donation.

The symptoms described seems to indicate a bad CV joint.

Check the CV joint boots for tear and presence of grease splashed out onto the drive axles behind the front wheels. Since problem has occurred for 2 months, you would most probably need to replace the CV joint. Joints can be replaced separately so there is no necessity to replace both side if only 1 is faulty.
