I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX Mileage: 163k Manual Transmission

When I start up the car I hear a whining sound coming from the compressor when I turn on the A/C the sound stops then I turn off the A/C and whining sound started again. Then there was a pecking sound coming from the motor, so I just turned the car off. What could be the problem? Need help fast!

Thanks Very Much.

It sounds like the AC compressor is on its way out.

So it is just the compressor? But is that making the Pecking noise in the motor too? I check the oil and everything I pretty much keep the car in good shape.

But I baught it last Aug. And since Ive had it I have replaced the battery, alternator, fan motor, and changed the oil everything like that but havent replaced the timing belt yet could that be making the pecking noise? Sorry to be such a hassle I just don't know where the noise is coming from.

Thanks for the reply.

Check for a loose belt first-than decide what to do with the compressor have it replace or remove the belt till further notice when funds are available.

The pecking sound could be a frayed belt and that belt could be any of the multiple belts located in the area of the compressor. Some are covered and others not.
