One day I was driving home and eventually my car began to decelerate on its own while my foot was on the gas. My check engine light cut on. And as I pressed the gas the car would not go over twenty kmh. The more I pressed gas the more the car decelerated. Eventually I floored the acceleration peddle and the car started to shake and cut off on me. When I finally towed it home I tried to start the car, it reversed fine but when it was time to accelerate it cut off on me. So I got the fuel pump changed but that did not fix the problem.

Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 1995 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.
