Took car in to dealership for two recalls, engine and steering coupler. Prior to this, no noises or other reason to take car in for service. Got car back almost four weeks later was told both recalls corrected, new engine and steering coupler. Technician noted after repairs heard noise from steering rack and we need to have it replaced. Mind you, there were no noises before we dropped the car off. Now sounds like metal to metal when driving. Sounds comes and goes. Not constant.

You need to get this back and get him to check their work. Press the point that there was not a noise before it was sent in. Without hearing the noise first hand it is very difficult to say what it may be, if you can advise on when it makes the noise and try to describe it as best you can, my first thought is a loud noise when steering is on full lock. This can be air in the system and the pump cavitating or the of loader valve is noisy. Simply defined, cavitation is the formation of bubbles or cavities in liquid, developed in areas of relatively low pressure around an impeller. The imploding or collapsing of these bubbles trigger intense shock waves inside the pump, causing significant damage to the impeller and/or the pump housing

Thanks MHPautos for responding and helping with this. We only hear the scraping metal sound after we first pull off in the car, then you might hear it again off and on while driving, but again it is not constant. We did take it back to the dealership this morning to make them aware this sound was not there before we dropped the car off for the recall repairs. Of course the technician who worked on the car was off today so we made a appointment to take the car back Monday morning. Fingers crossed.

Hi MHPautos, ok. According to the dealership, the metal scraping noise is coming from the Front center flex pipe muffler needing to be replaced.

I would be getting a second opinion on that, just to be sure.
