My 2000 GMC Sierra has an issue with warm restarts. Oncwe the engine is warmed up and shut off, it requires 6-8 seconds of cranking to start. Alternatively if I hold the accelerator to the floor while cranking, the engine restarts almost immediately (though it runs a little unevenly for the first 15-20 seconds). Any suggestions?

Has the check engine light come on? It sounds like the temp sensor is bad and causing the engine to flood. Basically, the sensor tells the computer engine temp and outside temp so it knows how rich to make the air fuel mixture at start up.

Also, if the check engine light hasn't come on, I want you to check fuel pump pressure when it is warm. Here is a how to for checking it.

Let me know what you find.
