IDLE PROBLEM

MY 1989 CAVILER IDLES SO HIGH THAT WHEN I BRAKE THE CAR STILL MOVES TO THE POINT THE BRAKES SMOKE. IT HAPPEN EVERY TWO DAYS OR SO. I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Hmm if this were a Cadillac, I could walk you through every idle issue there is 8) ...but it's not... Umm, is there a throttle position sensor on that thing? I'm having doubts... Look where the throttle arm rests...is there an idle control, or an adjustable screw there? Does the computer control the idle?

This car does have a TPS and when it fails the idle gets either: too high, too low, erratic. You need a digital voltmeter to install. I got mine from Harbor Freight Tools for $5. Try Big Lots, K-Mart, and be sure you have the Haynes book.
