Idle Problem

My 98 grand am runs just fine when I am pressing the gas, but when I stop and idle with my foot on the brake or it in park it will sometimes die, or surge. I replaced the spark plugs and air filter to no avail.

Any Tips?

Check for a faulty mass air flow sensor/idle air control. Double check the idle tensioner is responding properly.

Vacuum leaks or plugs?
Might want to check O2 sensors to get a feel for the fuel/air ratio. If they are functioning well, they can be a good starting point to finding a problem.
