Can I delete the return line coming from fuel filter if the new pump is a straight feed pump and not a return style pump? Which was the original fuel pump.

Hi,

No, that won't work. The fuel pressure regulator depends on a return to function. Fuel pressure is established by a spring preload applied to the regulator's diaphragm. Excess fuel is bypassed through the regulator and returned to the fuel tank. If you eliminate that, the regulator won't be able to return the fuel and causes very high pressure. The engine will flood or run extremely rich.

Let me know if that helps.

Take care,

Joe

Yes, it did. Now I would like to get my car going and not have to wait another week to get the new fuel pump and the correct one. I want to use the new fuel pump that's a straight line take the plate off the top of it take the plate off the old pump take the push rods out and springs plate replace the two plates at the line going down into the reservoir where the pump is housed, drill a hole put the hose down. It will be identical to the old housing and old pump assembly and have the return line and I've created my new inline pump into a dual returning line pump, correct? The motors are the only thing different, but will that's motor be the same as the old motor? I'm told it is more powerful than the old one, so it should work fine because the regulator at the fuel line at the fuel rail will only read 55 PSI. Anyway, anything over that will go back into the tank anyhow so it doesn't matter how much you're pushing it's only going to allow 55 or whatever PSI is calling for anyhow.

Hi,

It sounds like you have a plan. As long as there are no leaks and the wiring isn't damaged, I suspect it will be okay. However, you can't completely block off the return.

Also, the 55 PSI is showing as max with the key on and engine off. See the attachment below.

Let me know how things work out for you.

Take care,

Joe
