I bought a used windstar last week and since then have had to put in a used transmission, water pump, tension pully assembly, as well as change all the betlts and fliuds. My question is what would cause the van to sound like there is no muffler when getting it back from the shop? There is no cracks in the muffler that I can see and it was quiet when I took it into the shop. Is there anyway that the new transmission is causing the loud noise?

Exhaust pipes generally need to be loosened, removed in order to do transaxle service on Windstar vehicles. Check for loose connections where manifolds bolt to cylinder heads, manifolds meet downpipes, and even check for O2 sensors which were not screwed back in.

Unless you received a really poor-shape tranny, I suspect the above as the culprit(s) to the noise.
