I just bought this car. It's a old cop car. We pulled the air compressor out and put in a bypass pulley in place, and we replaced the surpentine belt. We thought these were the old problems but then saw that the radiator hose was messing up and replaced it. But the car is still messing up. This is what it does. It will start up fine, and you can drive it around a little, but then my boyfriend would drive to get me to work thinking the car was okay, and the power would die when he would stop at a stop sign or light. It would just completely cut off and then not start again. We are not sure what else to replace in this car. What do you think it might be?
please help!

Hello,

It sounds like you might have a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
When you have a faulty crank sensor the engine will not produce spark to the plugs and the engine will not start.
Due to engine vibration, heat and the constant generation of electromagnetic energy being produced internal windings can become brittle and break causing a direct or intermittent short circuit of the sensor which will cause the engine to stall.
This failure may or may not cause the check engine light to come on and set a trouble code for this problem.

Is the check engine light illuminated?

Here are some helpful articles on crank sensor:

I have attached the diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
