Engine Cooling problem
1993 Ford Taurus

My car has been overheating on long trips. It's fine for about 40 minutes but then the oil temperature climbs, the engine hisses then bubbles, and the last time it stated to smell inside the car. It's never overheated so badly that it stops, I have stopped it let it cool down then poured in a lot of water on all three trips. However winter is coming and I know straight water in an engine can't be good. What do I do?

The smell you got in the car, was it coolant? Is the passanger side carpet getting wet? Have you seen any leaks on the ground?

I'm fairly certain the smell is coolant. On the last trip, the passenger carpet was wet but before that it wasn't wet, I checked. I haven't checked for leaks however I've kept a close watch on the fluid and it hasn't changed much when not driving. I will put some paper under there tomorrow to check though.

Let me know what you find. The inside getting wet makes me believe the heater core may be bad.
