2002 ford ranger will not start sometimes. when the key is turned it will turn over a couple times and then quit and make a fast clicking sound. This does not always happen but when it does I usaually just boost it and its good for a while, but last time even trying to boost didn't do anything but im hoping that there was somethin wrong witht the guys cables or it was just too cold out. Any easy checks I could look for? Or any Ideas, Ive heard that it could be the starter?

Check all the connections, the battery cables, the alternator connections, and the ground wires.
Your battery could be failing and no longer holding a charge. Your alternator could be failing and is no longer able to charge the battery. You could have both, battery and alternator going bad.

A lot of local parts houses will do these checks for free.

Good luck and let us know what you find. :)
