Is it my timing belt?

I have a 96 ford probe and we took it to the shop and they said i needed a new battery, so we replaced the battery drove it home from the shop, and on the way to work the next day on the interstate it began to slow down and so we pulled over and it died, it will not start again. we looked under the hood and it will turn over but not kick off to start? what could be my problem?

Are you still running on the original alternator? If they just replaced the battery and you were saying that it slowed down and eventually died it could be a worn out alternator. I had a car a few years ago that did the same thing and that turned out to be the problem.

its the alternator but make sure when you replace it you replace it on a new or fully charge battery
