I have a 2002 Mercury Sable GS with 50,000 miles I just bought it about 2 months ago.( GOOD CAR!)But a few days ago I heard a intermitent squeek in the engine compartment, so I checked it out and I sprayed some silicone lube behind one of the smaller idler pulleys and it stopped and it wasn't very loud in the first place but it just bugged me.I know that it is that pulley but should I replace it soon or can it wait for awhile?

Try replacing the belt---check idler pulling for worn bearing

If it's the idler pulley, (when stoppped) will have some play in it. If it is the pulley and you let it go it could "throw the belt" and you will have no alternator, no power steering and no air conditioning as the belt will shred itself on the pulleys. Having no air conditioner is not too much of a problem but not having power steering will make things difficult for you. I do agree with pud though it is probably just the belt.
