Engine Performance problem
1998 Ford Mustang 6 cyl Automatic 140 K miles

While I was driving to work this morning, my car suddenly jerked and the cd player turned off. The engine didn't shut off but I couldn't accelerate. The rpm meter showed an increase but I wasn't accelerating. I pushed the pedal again and it started to accelerate but the engine then jerked again and it did the same thing. I continued this till I got to my exit about a mile down the road and stopped at the stop light. I then pressed the gas pedal and it accelerated just fine.

The check engine light was on last week and I took it in to have them test it to see what it was. The told me I need fuel injectant cleaner and I purchased it and put it in the tank. Any idea what would cause the engine to jerk and not accelerate like it did for that brief period?
