Here's the procedure for replacing your ball joint. I suggest you purchase a service manual from chiltons or hanes. They'll give you detailed illustrations and helpful hints/tips.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Either remove the front suspension lower control arm from the vehicle, or remove the front strut and spindle from the vehicle.

If the lower control arm was removed from the vehicle, position the lower control arm in a vise so that the ball joint is easy to service.

Using a large C-clamp and adapters, such as Ford Tools T74P-4635-C, D89P-3010-A and D84P-3395-A4, carefully press the old ball joint out of the lower control arm.

To install:

When installing a new front ball joint, leave the protective cover in place to protect the ball joint seal. It may be necessary to cut off the end of the cover to allow it to pass through the receiving cup adapter tool.

Press the new ball joint into the lower control arm with Ford's Ball Joint Replacer D89P-3010-B, Cup D84P-3395-A4 and C-Frame T74P-4635C, or their equivalents, until it is fully seated in the control arm.

Discard the ball joint protective cover and inspect the ball joint to ensure that it is fully seated in its bore and that it is free of cuts or tears.

Install the lower control arm in the vehicle or install the front strut and spindle, whichever is applicable.
