I took my car in for an inspection and they gave me a quote for 600 dollars to replace the ball joints. Ive been a do it yourselfet for years but ive never done ball joints because I don't have a hydraulic press. Ive recently seen hydraulic presses for sale at my local auto parts store I was just wondering how do you press the joints in and out and how many tons should I look for in a press for ball joint service.

They actually have a c clamp version of the ball joint press that you just turn the forcing screw to press the ball joint out and in. Its pretty straight forward instructions are in the set.I believe auto zone rents them for free. Which ball joints need to be replaced upper or lower?
