Transmission problem
1996 Ford F-350 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 133, 00 miles

When I put the truck into park then I am backing up, going out of drive to either park or reverse somethings the truck will not go back into drive. I will have to put it down into first then second, then drive. When going down the road even with a load there is no slipping. This does not happen every time.
And it does not seem to make a difference if the truck is hot or cold

Is the gear shifter tight or does it have play in it, the bolts on the back of the colum came loose over time and it would make shifting really hard. Or if the linkage going into the trans is jambed up with mud and dirt they were really hard shifting aswell. There is just a rod into the trans so it is unlikely to be in the trans. I would check those to obvious first.
