Get the shift interlock system checked out-check in the owner's manual is to how to override the system-probable causes could be the brake switch, the brake ECU and the shiftlock control solenoid

I had the same problem but also had the ABS light blinking continuously. Haven't found the problem yet but overrode the situation by removing the fuse to the transmission interlock system. Light still blinks but I can drive truck.

There is a switch on the front of the brake fluid reservoir that is activated when you press the brake pedal. The o ring breaks down and begins to leak. This causes the switch to short out. Ford has a recall for this problem due to fires under the hood.
