Started up the truck and it ran just fine. Went down to the gas station and gassed it up. When I tried to start the truck again it was making a strange whining noise while running and the shifter was wobbling back and forth. I turned the engine off and pulled the key out and it sounded like the engine was still running until it finally whined down and turned off. Now when we try to jump it the engine cranks even if there is no key in the ignition. The plastic casing on the jump wires get hot and start to melt. Thanks a million for the help!

I think that it is the starter motor. The only other thing it may be is the ignition. The contacts may be sticking in it which would also cause the engine to crank without the key.
