1988 F150 supercab 4x4--351 engine 162030kmh. Went to work this morning truck started and ran great. Went to go home for dinner and it would not start. It would crank over but it would not even fire, I kept trying for 10 minutes even pushed the gas pedal to the floor and tried thinking I had flooded it but still nothing. Came back after work and it still wouldn't start. Caught a ride home and came back after supper and tried it but still nothing. Held gas pedal to floor and cranked and cranked finally started ran great. Drove it home shut it off and tried to start it and all it would do is turn over, wouldn't fire at all. Changed the TFI IV module but didnt make any difference. Came home from work next day tried truck took a bit had to step on gas pedal truck started, shut it off and started it a few times checked the timing it was good shut it off and then went to start it again and it would not start, would not even fire. Can hear a loud hum when key is turned on and a click, checked pressure on fuel rail pressure reads 40 pounds when key is turned on. Hope you can help THANKYOU. Desperately needin help

Daddy says you need to find out what is botherin you r truck when it won't start. He thinks you might want to try to isolate whether your not getting spark or fuel when the problem is happening. Maybe you already know that. Since you did hear that ol fuel pump a hummin, and your pressure is in specs, it makes me think that maybe the problem is a weak or no spark. MAybe you need one of those spark testers to check it.

I have a '86 Ford F150 and I just replaced my Starter. Twice (bad rebuilt one). My engine would crank, but not turn over. Eventually, after so many unsuccessful attempts at starting, it would only "click" and then it wouldn't make any sound.

I'm by no means an expert in these matters, but the Starter might be worth looking into.
